HANOI - SAPA LUXURY TRAIN

If you want to head for the hills at Sapa, take the train from Hanoi to Lao Cai.  Sapa has no railway station, but it's about 40km from Lo Cai rail station and easily reached from there by tourist bus, jeep or hired motorbike.  There are both daytime and overnight sleeper trains between Hanoi & Lao Cai. But overnight trains are preferred because it saves time and two nights of accommodations.

The overnight trains between Hanoi & Lao Cai have several privately-run deluxe sleeping-cars attached for tourists, as well as the normal sleepers & seats.  If you want extra comfort & cleanliness and don't mind paying a bit more, go for one of these

Victoria Express Train:

The train departs six times a week, linking Hanoi to Lao Cai. The Victoria Express Train is a 8.5 hour trip from Hanoi to Lao Cai, accommodating up to 52 passengers with comfortable seating, a dining carriage (see Victoria Express Train Schedule) and two luxurious sleeping carriages. 

Each sleeping carriage has 6 superior cabins (4 berths) and 1 deluxe cabins (2 berths), all are air-conditioned, wood panelled, with individual reading lights, baggage storage, toilets and oversized windows.

Tulico Train

Tulico train offer comfortable, air-conditioned soft sleepers. While this is not a luxurious train, it offers good alternative transportation to Sapa from Hanoi. It has soft sleepers, A/C and clean four-berth cabins. You will be provided with one bottle of water, a small snack and a napkin.

Tulico train offers comfortable air-conditioned soft sleepers. This is a good value for money  train carriage. It is  good and clean cabin, especially the deluxe 2 berth cabin ( for 2 persons only) between Hanoi and Lao Cai. While this is is not a luxurious train it offers good alternative transportation to get to Sapa  from Hanoi. It is soft sleeper, A.C and clean 4 berth cabin. The train provide you one bottle of water, small snack and a napkin.

Ratraco Train

In the LC5 and LC6, there are Victoria Cabins, Tulico Cabins, Pumpkin Cabins, and Ratraco Cabins. All of these are alternatives for tourists to Sapa from Hanoi. Ratraco train is one of the best trains to Sapa with wooden cabins.

The Ratraco Express Train is designed with soft 4 berths and two toilet at either ends features 4 soft berth in each cabin  with individual reading lights, baggage storage and spacious trunk  for suite case and hand luggage. The train provide also water and cold tower

Pumpkin Train

Pumpkin train, like the Tulico train, is not a separate train, but offers soft sleepers, A/C and clean four-berth cabins in 2 carriages which go with local trains (LC5 and LC6) between Hanoi and Laocai. Pumpkin train is one of the best choice for tourists to Sapa.

Royal Train

To serve tourist requirements, the Royal Train is also part of a regular train with 2 carriages in SP1 and SP2 which offers A/C, soft-sleepers and clean four-berth cabins.

Like Tulico train,  Royal train  is not a separate train, but it is Soft sleeper carriage, A.C and clean 4 berth cabin in 2 carriages connected to local train (SP1 and SP2) between Hanoi and Lao Cai. The Royal Train departs every night (The journey takes 10 hours)
